FAQ
What kind of photographer are you? My work has been described as organic, natural, and sentimental with a fine art quality. I combine traditional and documentary photography along with portraiture to capture genuine images for you to treasure for a lifetime. Imagine your family as fine art. As your photographer, I will provide a generous gallery of images that can be displayed in your home as pieces of art or archived in a custom album to be treasured for generations. These photographs will be an investment in your family history. Images from your session often tell a story, capturing a treasured moment in time. I do not try to make you look perfect, stiff, or unnatural. I am not after that "one" shot with everyone looking at the camera and smiling. Sure, we may get some with everyone looking and smiling, but I promise if we do, it will be because it happened naturally, not because it was forced.
Where and what time of the day will my session be held? I am a natural light, on location photographer. If we are shooting in your home, I prefer late morning, because that is when homes are usually lit up the best. If we are shooting outdoors, we will shoot either in the morning or in the evening. The light is typically too harsh mid-day. If your children are up for it, shooting one to two hours before sunset provides gorgeous light and atmosphere. The images in my portfolio look the way they do largely because of my use of light and the time of day your session takes place has a huge impact. Many families tell me that they simply have the kids take a late nap or have some downtime prior to their evening session.
How long will my session be? My family portrait sessions rarely last more than 1 hour and 30 min. I can easily get a diverse and adequate gallery in that time. Do not worry I won’t rush through the session.
If I asked you, would you make me look slimmer in Photoshop? No, this is not cohesive to my brand. I am all about embracing who you and your family are at that moment of your life. My editing style is effortless. I will do pose my clients in flattering ways to look their best.
Do you use props? In general props are not conducive to my style. For outdoors sessions i might bring blankets, stools or some other minimum elements that matches my brand.
Do you offer mini sessions? No, mini-sessions are not conducive to my style. Like I said, I am not after that one great shot but rather a collection of images for lifelong appreciation. I might occasionally offer mini sessions for holiday or limited edition type of photo session.
